Curious events from my day to day life. |
This next week I’ll be working on my Online Portfolio and adding the latest work I haven’t blogged yet. I still have a few good pieces from Christmas I still need to color and then I’ll be all over it!
Today was Mother’s Day here so I went to have lunch at my sister’s and treat my Mom! I spent yesterday with her too helping her out with her Android Smartphone! All family went Samsung because of me lol!
In USA is 5 de Mayo, so Happy holiday over there too! Have a Corona Xtra form me! Extra Lime!
New assignment! Been sketching for quite a bit from a wooden manequin… I like this idea, but it requires more work! Back to the Sketchpad!
Political Games on Lajes Summit. To illustrate an article on the book “A Cimeira das Lajes - Portugal e a Guerra do Iraque” by Bernardo Pires de Lima, published on Diário de Notícias, QI Cultural Supplement on 09.03.13.
The article refers to the political manipulation that lead to the Lajes (Azores) Summit to have the UK approval on the Irqi war and Spain’s manipulation on the Summit’s location to have some projection on it.
My deadline was shorter than usual and the article was very complex. I chose to draw in a cartoonish style because was the best way to illustrate the article with a little sense of humor. The main characters in that piece were George W. Bush, representing the USA and José Maria Aznar, representing Spain, so I focused on them both manipulating the UK and Portugal, respectively.
I love political Cartoon, so this particular piece was very sweet on me! Hope you guys like it as much as I enjoyed working on it!
This illustrates Andrew Hacker’s article for QI about Nate Silver’s book “The Signal and the Noise”. It was quite a challenge as the concept was all about his method of prevision that allowed him forecast with accuracy the last USA’s presidential election results. In the book he talks about two types of people, the Fox that has several small ideas and the hedgehog that has only one big idea. He also compares some methods of prevision to Tarot because they disregard the human factor so they are most fallible… That’s how I came up with this illustration.
I decided to use the Fox and the Hedgehog as main characters playing chess that is a strategy game opposed to a Tarot Card played by the Hedgehog that is his random big idea. I chose “Death” for two reasons, the meaning of this card is change and also QI’s main theme was Death too.
This time I went totally analogue and used pencil and colored pencil to transmit the idea of traditional fable which I thought was the most appropriate approach to this article.
It was published on Diário de Notícias Saturday cultural supplement QI on 23.02.2013. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I enjoyed illustrating it! Stay tuned!
Working on a very tight deadline for Diário de Notícias’ QI Saturday cultural supplement. It’s not the easiest text to illustrate, a text about “The Signal and the Noise” by Nate Silver. Quite interesting theme, gave me a lot to think and sketch about! I’ll post the final work on Saturday after it’s published! Stay Tuned!
As the usual here I am updating the blog with new Artwork. This one was to illustrate a text on Public–private partnerships (PPPs). Published on Advocatus, Feb 2013.
Not my usual line of work, but I’m always trying new styles. When an assignment asks for a different approach I’m happy to explore new ways to look at subjects and new techniques to conceive it. More to come! Stay Tuned!
Yesterday I got my new T-Shirt and Stickers with my TM Logo! My computer and Smartphone are already branded! (laughs)
Been working on a new illustration for Advocatus magazine, a lawyers publication and the Theme is PPPs (Public-Private Partnerships).
I developed it in a style that is not my usual. I never forget to pencil it on my sketchbook first, then moved on to Adobe Illustrator and finalized it on Adobe Photoshop. It came out really well!
Will post it after it’s published. I also made a cartoon about it as a backup plan, so I’ll post it too after it’s colored! Stay tuned!
As usual here’s this week illustration for QI (Diário de Notícias Saturday Cultural Supplement). This Week’s assignment was about Mistery Novels as you can see. Stay tuned!
Wednesday, usually deadline day, but this week I managed to wrap it up on Tuesday. Got a new illustration to be published on QI (Diário de Notícias Cultural Supplement). It was a generic theme again… This week was about two detective novelists, so was all about mystery and murder! It came out pretty good and I’m looking forward to next edition to see it in print! Stay tuned!
